Maps and Directions
We are in game management unit 12 (GMU 12), centrally located between Meeker, Craig, Hayden, Steamboat Springs, and Yampa on the National Scenic Byway at 52100 County Road 8 between mile markers 52 and 53 (next door to the National Historic Pyramid Ranger Station) in the heart of the largest elk herd in the world (42,000+ animals) which is located in the Flat Tops Wilderness of NW Colorado. On the Flat Tops hunting map below look for the star which represents the location to our secluded 3500 SF mountain hunting cabin. We are one hour away from the towns of Craig, Meeker and Steamboat Springs where you would find grocery stores, gas stations and hotels or alternate lodging. No one rents lodging within a 15-30 mile radius from our location.

During the summer all roads are open; however, after Rifle Season 4, the last hunting season in our Game Management Unit 12, there is no winter maintenance on over 40 miles of the Scenic Byway between Meeker and Yampa from approximately mile marker 30 through mile marker 70 which encompassed the areas between Dunckley and Ripple Creek Passes.
As a result, when sufficient snowfall occurs in the winter or hasn't melted out yet in the spring, the only way to access the cabin located in the Flat Tops is through Hayden or Hamilton. County Roads from Hamilton and Hayden through County Road 19 are plowed and maintained all winter. However, the road is only plowed up though the intersection of county roads 19 and 8. There is a parking area there for vehicles and trailers. The cabin is located another 2.5 miles south of the intersections of County Roads 19 and 8, on County Road 8, and can be accessed via snowmobile, foot, cross-country skis or snowshoe.
For those we don't mind snowmobiling in from longer distances, you can park either at Lost Creek on the Meeker, Colorado side of the Scenic Byway or just a few miles east of Dunckley pass on the Yampa, Colorado side of the Scenic Byway, and snowmobile to the cabin an approximate 20 miles from either direction.
This year we were able to drive in until December 15th; however, the road is generally unpassable in a car from approximately Thanksgiving up until Memorial Day.
Area Airports
Denver (DEN) is the nearest major airport (4 hour drive) but don't forget about Grand Junction (GJT), Eagle County / Vail (EGE) or Hayden / Steamboat (HDN) when searching for low air fares. These smaller airports are much more convenient.
Where are the nearest airports?
We would love to book you for 2012-2013
